Siena, Italy – Siena Duomo Museum

Today I went to the Siena Duomo museum and looked at the treasures, relics, and art of the Medieval ages.

What I learned: that evidentially in 1200-1300 Siena it was quite popular to save the teeth and jaw bone of your loved one. Wrap ribbons around them and encase them in a glass, embellished box. The same popularity existed for your loved one ‘s head . If you were popular then…they’d save your entire body. Wrap the bones in ribbons, silk flowers and put your skull smack on top.

Just to put it in writing- I’d prefer my head not be encased and put on the mantle. I think I’m more a one with the earth kinda gal.
